This assignment is all about light, and design. One of the best ways to show a focal point of geometry and design is to eliminate the sky. The sky is always lighter that your foreground subject and it serves to draw your eye away from the focal point of the picture so it's best to generally just delete the sky from the scene and you will be further ahead.
The other thing that's important about this assignment is to begin the process of editing your pictures for light. Take a look at a couple of the videos I made on how to do that and how important it is to the look of the final photograph. I'll edit the top one and re-post to show you the before and after difference....
