The Macro Project

I've been waiting for "macro week" for quite a while.  Anytime I go out shooting, I always end up taking a few macro shots.  I love the intimate feeling macro photos give me and I especially enjoy getting extra close to my subject.

Today, I shot at Foote Park in Branford.  There are a few shots from around my house (my dog and my afternoon snack), but most are from the park.  I only used my kit lens for this assignment.

All of that said, I was mildly disappointed with this weeks pictures.  A few came out nicely, but overall I think I could have done better.  In many cases, I was able to focus on some of the subject, but not the entire subject.  Backing up a bit took away from that macro feel.  I looked up techniques to avoid this issue, but couldn't find any particularly helpful tips.

Light and Shadows

This week was particularly difficult.  I take all of my pictures on Sunday's, as it's my only free day.  This past Sunday, the weather was rotten- there wasn't a ray on sun shining down on anything!  I had to get creative and take some pictures around my house, trying to find interesting shadows within my living room and kitchen.  On Saturday afternoon, just before I left my house, I saw a fun shadow coming through one of my windows.  You will see those shots below.  All pictures were edited for shadow protection, contract and color, if applicable.
All of my posts generally include interesting shadows, so I was really looking forward to doing some light related photography this week.  Maybe I'll focus at least a few pictures on that during our free week.

Before and After

Here's Alicity's really nice shadow shot as she posted it...

Same shot but color balanced and the contrast raised....

Love the simplicity of this image...

Remember to edit for light and color balance everyone....
